Selenopeltis Buchii (rare) (North Africa) east of Erfoud,Ordovician era.

Selenopeltis is a rare find and are popular amongst the trilobite enthusiasts because of the size and rarity of this species.

The long graceful spines radiate out from the cephalon (head) all the way down the sides of the trilobite to the pygidium (tail), this species of trilobite is well known for its flattened relief and most have minimal detail, this one is nicely formed with a beautiful curved pose.

Specimens of this size are usually in need of heavy restoration, this one is in superb condition and all natural, including the matrix, this fossil was discovered in Alnif, Morocco and dates back to the Devonian era around 360 million years ago. Morocco is well known for an array of trilobite fossils which are discovered there and the trilobites are well known for there intricate and beautiful characteristics.Trilobites are an extinct anthropod that form the class Trilobita. These animals lived on the sea beds and were eradicated during the mass extinction at the end of the Permian era around 250 million years ago. This is an exeptionally well detailed specimen with great form and colour.
