Cretaceous Mosasaur tooth (Globidens Phosphaticus) North Africa. Cretaceous 94.9-66 million years

Globidens simplex is an extinct species of mosasaur that lived during the late Cretaceous between 84.9-66 million years ago. Globidens was a medium sized mosasaur, reaching lengths of approximately 6 metres,although it is thought they may have grown larger than this. The teeth of Globidens are very telling of how this species lived and what it fed on, the teeth would have been positioned close together within the jaw to create a crushing and grinding surface to break through the hard shelled sea life found at the time, such as large crabs and possibly sea turtles. Globidens is thought to of had the greatest bite force of any of the mosasaurs with a 9.7 tonne force, perfect for breaking through any hard exterior.
