3 Triceratops teeth, natural matrix and formation, Ceratopsian. (Triceratops horridus) Cretaceous, hell creek. USA

These set of three teeth within the natural matrix in which they were found have beautiful detail. I decided to leave these teeth together as it is uncommon to find such nicely detailed teeth as these together. Usually teeth are found singularly and most are worn down spitter teeth. All three teeth have partial root, the largest has a good body of root present, the cusps of all three are very detailed and clear, as much of the three teeth were preserved on extraction from the ground and then stabilised as you see in the pictures. A superb fossil for Dinosaur and Trike enthusiasts. Location found- Harding County, South Dakota, USA.

Second to Tyrannosaurus Rex, Triceratops is probably the best well known Dinosaur in the world, this probably is due to the connection of the belief that Triceratops was probably the main prey and food source of T-rex, but i feel that Triceratops is a magnificent species of dinosaur in its own rights. Triceratops was a herbivore dinosaur that lived during the cretaceaous period between 68-66 million years ago and shared the same fate as T-rex of being the last of the dinosaurs. Triceratops was a quadrapedal dinosaur, with a thick heavy set body, not too disimilar to the modern day Rhino, but the most destinctive features of Triceratops was its 3 horns, 2 large horns positioned above the eyes that measured upto 45inches long and a shorter horn on the end of its nose and a huge neck frill that protruded from the back of the skull.
