Lycoptera (L. davidi) fish fossil, Lower Cretaceous, Yixian, Liaoning, China.

Lycoptera species are an extinct small freshwater fish that are usually found fossilised in large groups. Lycoptera had no numerous tiny teeth but fed mainly on plankton and possibly small insects. Lycoptera can be found fossilised in China, North Korea, Mongolia and Siberia and can be recognised by small oval shaped scales that covered its body. Lycoptera has been dated back to the lower Cretaceous and is a member of the Jehol Biota prehistoric ecosystem period also famous for its feathered Dinosaurs. 
This is a superb mortality plate of this fairly uncommon fossilised species, each fish is clear and detailed.
