During the year 2000 in North west Africa area of Tindouf, Algeria approximately 2 metric tons of what is now known as NWA 869 was found and has been Dated to around 4.5-4.6 billion years ago. The size of the pieces found range between 1g up to to 20kg. This stony chondrite originated from the asteroid belt that lies between Mars and Jupiter. Type L3-6 Regolith Breccia.

By mass NWA 869 is the largest stony meteorite ever discovered on earth- compositions of the chondrite L3-6 are as follows- Regolith breccia, containing solar noble gases and preirradiated lithologies. Olivine in lithic clasts: Fa0.2-49.2; olivine in matrix: Fa10.3-29.3; low-Ca pyroxene in lithic clasts: Fs2.1-35.9; low-Ca pyroxene in matrix: Fs7.0-23.9. Bulk oxygen isotopes: δ17O = 3.52; δ18O = 4.67; Δ17O = 1.09 per mil.

All of the meteorites showed come in a Perspex display box with a laminated identification label.
